MMO The Day Before was supposed to be released in March, but it will push back its release to November 10, 2023. Many gamers were already skeptical about whether the game would live up to its promises. The reason for the recent postponement makes many more suspicious.
The Day Before is a gaming bag. Everything looks decent from the outside, sort of The Division meets DayZ, with survival elements and quality graphics.
However, whether the piñata contains a cheap toy that ends up directly in the trash or a cool extension to the toy box – that cannot be said at the moment. Many gamers are skeptical that a small studio can deliver on big promises.
Now there has been another shift and the reasons for that should not guarantee that the title will be given more confidence. Because the delay of 9 months is explained by copyright issues.
You can watch one of the trailers for the game, which is due out in February, here:
Previous Day: Release most likely November 10, 2023 only
How do developers explain the shift? Fntastic studio developers posted a statement on Twitter:
Translate tweets: Dear Fans. Shortly before release, Steam blocked our game page, at the request of a private individual. The reason was the “Day Before” name. As you know, our game was announced in January 2012. At the time of the announcement, the game’s trademark was “ The Day Before” is available. Following the announcement, the above person has filed the trademark for the game “The Day Before” before us in the United States.”
“How is it now? We were not previously aware of the existence of these allegations. We only found out on January 19, 2023, when we received the complaint requesting that [das Individuum] To call. Now we know the circumstances of the accident and we will solve everything.
“We were originally planning to release a longer gameplay video later this month, but we need to get the problem out of the way first. We will post a video about it as soon as possible.”
“As a result, we have made the difficult decision to push the release until November 10, 2023. We understand this may be disappointing for our fans. But we want to make sure we release the best possible match.”
“Our focus remains 100% on the game and how we can give you the best game. Thank you and we hope for your support. Sincerely, MYTONY and FNTASTIC.”
The developers explain the transformation that took place in about 9 months with copyright issues.
Could this be true? It looks suspicious. Not only because it was discovered shortly before its release. Shortly after the Steam website went missing, the developers claimed that it was due to a bug in Steam. No other games were affected.
Only later did the letter mention copyright problems.
The changelog here in the tweet shows that screenshots and trailers have been manually removed from the Steam page.
What do fans say about this? There were credibility issues the day before even before it was rescheduled. The reactions to shift look like this:
- @G5ToxicKing: “Oh, that sounds really fishy to me. I’m out there, enjoy it.”
- hall_loue: “Was it moved due to name copyright? Are you sure there is no other reason?”
- @PlaidM00se: “See you all here in November for the next planned postponement.”
You can feel in the comments that the players’ and fans’ confidence continues to wane. For now, it remains open how The Day Before will proceed. But the work certainly didn’t do the title good.
What do you say about work? For us, The Day Before was one of the most ambitious titles of 2023, but we were starting to have doubts. Here is the relevant list: 5 highly ambitious multiplayer games that will be released in 2023
